Many contracts are typically plagued with ambiguities, inconsistencies, and unintended imprecision from unnecessary legalese. Such mistakes can render contracts confusing, risky and potentially very costly.
- Examine the need for contracts in a purchasing context
- Recognize the components of a contract
- Describe the general principles of a contract
- Determine whether specific provisions are required, essential, recommended or optional
- Identify and evaluate risk management techniques
- Contrast and compare international contracts vs domestic contracts
Deepak Iyengar, PhD, University of Maryland College Park, is a Professor of Logistics & Supply Chain Management at Georgia Southern University (GSU). His teaching and research interests include lean and six sigma processes, supply chain sustainability, logistics management, and applied statistics. He has mentored and has been directly involved with around 100 projects in lean / six sigma implementation. Deepak’s projects and teaching experience has been across manufacturing, service industries, not for profit organizations and Governmental organizations in the U.S., India and Qatar. He has authored several academic research papers and has also been involved in writing books and book chapters in logistics and supply chain management. He has been instrumental in starting up the Greenbelt Lean Six Sigma Certification program at CWU. He currently serves as a Senior Editor at the Journal of Business Logistics and is part of the Editorial Review Board at Journal of Business Logistics and Transportation Journal. He serves as the program advisor of the Masters in Logistics & Supply Chain Management at GSU.
